Bread (David Gates) - If

1969년 데이빗 게이츠, 지미 그리핀, 롭 로이어 등이 주축이 되어 미국 캘리포니아에서 결성된 소프트록 그룹 브레드(Bread)의 히트곡입니다. 데뷔와 동시에 'Make It with You' 등으로 1970년대 초반 많은 인기를 얻었던 브레드의 세번째 정규 앨범 [Manna]에 수록된 곡으로 다소 몽환적인 멜로디와 서정적이고 감미로운 노래말로 오랫동안 사랑받는 곡이죠.

브레드는 1977년 마지막 정규 앨범인 [Lost Without Your Love]까지 내고 활동했는데 이 밖에 1972년에 내놓은 앨범 [Guitar Man]에 들어있는 'Aubrey' 도 지금까지 많은 사람들에게 사랑받고 있습니다.

엄청나게 많은 가수가 커버했던 곡이지만 그 가운데 1994년 노르웨이의 릴레함메르 동계 올림픽 오프닝 무대에서의 공연으로 셰계에 알려진 노르웨이의 크로스오버 뮤지션 시셀(Sissel Kyrkjebo)이 노래한 If는 특히 많은 인기를 얻었는데 국내에서는 방송용 음악과 광고 음악으로도 많이 사용되기도 했죠.
